Kielecka realizacja, przygotowana przez zespół Teatru Lalki i Aktora „Kubuś” w Kielcach, wpisuje się w wieloletnią tradycję tej sceny, łączącej klasykę polskiego dramatu z poszukiwaniami formalnymi teatru formy. Teatr od lat buduje repertuar oparty na dialogu z lokalną kulturą i historią regionu, nadając im współczesne, uniwersalne brzmienie.
„Spowiedź w drewnie” to przejmująca, a zarazem subtelnie podszyta ludowym humorem opowieść o artyście i jego dziele. Stary świątkarz Jasiek próbuje wyrzeźbić swoją ostatnią figurę – Chrystusa do przydrożnej kapliczki. Praca jednak nie postępuje. Rozmowa z drewnianym Zbawicielem przeradza się w gorzką spowiedź z życia pełnego niespełnionych ambicji i artystycznych porażek. Milczącymi świadkami wyznania stają się stojące wokół rzeźby świętych, które coraz śmielej osądzają swojego twórcę. Dramat Wilkowskiego to poruszające studium twórczego niespełnienia oraz refleksja nad istotą teatru animacji – nad próbą tchnienia ruchu i ducha w materię pozornie martwą.

A Kielce production, performed by the Puppet and Actors’ Theatre „Kubuś” in Kielce, is part of the long-standing tradition of this scene combining classic Polish drama with explorations of theater’s formal character. The program created over the years is based on the understanding of the local culture and the region’s history, giving them modern and universal meaning.
„A Confession in Wood” is a touching, yet subtly laced with folk humor, story about an artist and his creation. Jasiek, an old sculptor of saint statues, attempts to carve his final work – a figure of Christ for a wayside shrine. However, he got stuck in a deadlock, and his conversation with the wooden Savior descends into a bitter confession about a life full of unfulfilled ambitions and artistic failures. Silent witnesses of this discourse are sculptures of saints, becoming increasingly confident in judging their creator. Wilkowski’s drama is a moving study of unfulfilled artistic desires and a reflection on the essence of a puppet theater – on the attempt to give motion and a soul to a seemingly lifeless matter.
